Flying Nun Records’s most recent signing, alt-folk artist, Erny Belle, creates music that hangs delicately in the spaces between alt-folk and popular song. Her songs, described as ‘bona fide South Pacific poetry’, are inspired by her world in Aotearoa, and the worlds she creates for herself.
Erny Belle ( Aimee Renata) released her impressive debut single and video for ‘Burning Heaven’ in October 2021.
Moving from Auckland city to the rural township of Maungaturoto in the summer of 2019, she wrote and recorded her debut album, Venus Is Home - a nine song collection of dark and wry songs – woven together with the lighter instrumentation of lilting slide guitar, tremolo guitar, slow-burning melodies, and sublime, harmonised vocals.
Venus Is Home was independently released in February 2022 and Belle has received rave reviews – the album being widely praised as one of Aotearoa’s standout releases of 2022.
Flying Nun Records currently have a repress of Venus Is Home in production, with the vinyl LP estimated to be back on shelves from 18th November, 2022.
