Fueled By Ramen artist grandson has released his label debut, A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1. The five-song EP finds grandson confronting pressing political and social issues impacting his generation, and provoking discourse through a powerful union of art and activism.
Of the EP grandson states, “A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1 is my first cohesive body of work. It’s a sort of state of the union as told from a fed up, disenfranchised, pissed off young poet.” He added, “This is the only way I know how to release my anger and frustration with the pervasive recklessness and corruption that seeps into how we treat the environment, how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves.”
A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1 features the lead single ‘Blood // Water,’ which has been streamed over 16 Million times on Spotify alone.
This past March grandson released a powerful post-parkland anthem titled ‘Thoughts & Prayers,’ which Billboard detailed as,“…a stinging indictment of politicians sending out their ‘thoughts and prayers’ …while consistently resisting any attempt at meaningful gun reform.” grandson performed ‘Thoughts & Prayers’ at the Los Angeles March For Our Lives surrounded by the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir, whose members wore black t-shirts numbered 1–17 to represent the 17 students and teachers killed in the Parkland shooting. Furthermore, proceeds raised from the sale of a limited edition run of ‘Thoughts & Prayers’ merchandise were donated to the Youth For Safety and Justice Fund.
