YouTube strikes deal with GEMA

In a landmark agreement 7 years in the making, YouTube and Germany-based music rights organization, GEMA, have reached a licensing deal that both reinforces the commitment that composers, songwriters and publishers be fairly compensated and allows German fans to enjoy the wide variety of music available on YouTube.

Starting today, German viewers will no longer be subjected to the infamous "this video is not available in Germany" screen. As YouTube puts it, "this is a win for music artists around the world, enabling them to reach new and existing fans in Germany, while also earning money from the advertising on their videos."
