Welcome To My World - Paintings by Sam RB

Sam RB is more known as a NZ singer-songwriter than a visual artist, with three albums released including the NZ Olympic Song for the 2012 London Olympics. In fact she started doodling when she was on tour with her latest album and is now painting twelve to fifteen hours most days. Her music influences her paintings, along with her lived experience of madness, and as she swaps her plectrum for a paintbrush she explores the internal world of multiple selves and internal chaos through the medium of art.

She paints birds with prosthetic wings, because she believes we are all broken but we can still fly. Her paintings are brightly coloured, but also feature tui and fantails with no colour - because they’ve already leeched their colour into their surroundings. There are houses, volcanos, tree houses, lighthouses, guitars, kiwiana, and flocks of Blue Footed Boobies. She paints on canvas, wood and acoustic guitars. Sam RB's art is constantly changing and growing, but remains uniquely expressive. It explores an inner world that speaks to the human condition.

This is Sam RB's first solo art exhibition and she's proud to return to Toi Ora Gallery - a creative community arts space.

She also has a new single just out which will be available as a free download until the opening of the exhibition on October 6th. Get it from the link below and check out the video here.
