Jazz crossover artist Kevin Field releases his third album The A List on July 31st 2015 via Warner Music NZ.
A natural progression from his previous 2012 release Field of Vision, The A List is a collection of sophisticated, polished compositions with a wide range of influences from ’70s and ’80s soul and funk to acoustic jazz, latin and even a hint of disco!
Kevin recently travelled to New York to collaborate with some of the world’s top jazz artists.
“I wanted to do something different, play with some different musicians in a new environment” says Field.
The A List features compatriot Matt Penman, one of New York’s first call bass players, having featured on over 100 major label recordings, Grammy award winning Sony jazz guitarist Nir Felder and drummer Obed Calvaire who holds the drum chair with the crème of jazz and R&B artists including Wynton Marsalis, Mary J. Blige and Musiq Soulchild.
The album was recorded at Brooklyn Recording studios and mixed by Aaron Nevezie at The Bunker Studio in Williamsburg. Returning to NZ with the files, Kevin invited vocalists Clo Chaperon and Marjan Gorgani to add overdubs to several tracks and percussionist extraordinaire Miguel Fuentes also contributed his distinctive sound.
Kevin’s distinctive approach to jazz harmony is probably the most recognizable element in his playing and compositions. A dynamic and experienced live performer, Fields has featured on over 30 albums including Nathan Haines’ The Poet’s Embrace and Vermillion Skies and recordings by Whirimako Black and Jennifer Zea. Another of his projects, the DOG jazz quartet recently won Best Jazz Album at the 2015 NZ Music Awards. A lecturer in Jazz Studies at The University of Auckland, Field is known for the respect and affinity he garners from fellow musicians.
The A List is now available for purchase from iTunes.
